Clean Sweep

So I have started the process today of trying to clean out our spare bedroom. Now that we know it's a boy, I'm feeling a little more pressure to get things done. I know I still have 4 and 1/2 months to go, but I'm sure that will FLY by, so I want to go ahead and get a head start on cleaning things out while I still have some energy.

So here is my current dilemma: I am going through Isabelle's old baby clothes and trying to decide what to keep and what to sell/give away. There are the obvious things that I will keep, like her first Sunday at church outfit, Easter dress, Halloween outfit, etc., and of course I am keeping all the neutral/boyish things for the new baby. However, I'm pretty sure that we're not done having babies after this one. I've always wanted to have a big family, but we just don't have much storage space in our house. There is NO garage or attic space to speak of, so it just isn't practical to keep ALL her baby clothes. There are boxes and boxes, and I've already given some of it away. And it will be at LEAST 2 years before we have another baby, and that may not even be another girl, or be born during the same season. I'm just wondering how much I should keep, and up to what size. Should I keep shoes, socks, everything, or just a few special things? Will I regret getting rid of a lot of it? Anyone have any advice?

When we moved to W.R. our house didn't have a lot of storage like the on in Valdosta so I purged it. I felt like if I got prego again it would either be out of date, or season. Plus...storing the stuff (with the heat down here brought out all kinds of 'hidden' stains that were NOT there when I packed them up) I kept a few items for sentimental purposes. Blankets have been put to good use though..we still use them.

Good advice, Stacia! Thanks!

Keep what is special to you and what is your favorite. When you have a new one, there will still be new clothes that you will just HAVE to buy b/c they are so cute. I say to keep the shoes too b/c those can be pricey.

When I go to OH I take stuff to the Once Upon a Child and they have given me pretty good money for it.

You should definitly purge as much as possible to make room for all of your husband's cool tools.

Maybe your husband should purge some of his tools so that you can keep your sweet precious baby clothes. Then one day cut up the clothes and make a quilt out of them...

Or better yet get your hubby to build some storage with those tools!

I think my husband is going to have to purge some of his "cool tools" too.

I'm trying to convince my husband to 'purge' his "cool car" (he never drives it) He bought a for sale sign... but it's laying in the seat... for three weeks!!! Baby steps.

I would say only keep the things you really love. You will get more. Everyone likes to buy baby clothes. I shouldn't even be commenting on this one, my boys closet is full from top to bottom with boxes of clothes. Maybe I'll make that a summer project.

I hate to be on Ben's side, but you will probably have a lot more baby showers. Will Ben ever get a tool shower?

I agree with Stacia, Amber, and Sarah. That's what I've decided, too. Take the clothes that aren't special out to sell on eBay or consign. You'll want new clothes for new babies.

I'm so happy that you're having a little boy. I can't wait to see Ben with a little boy. I'm sure he'll have a lot to teach him. I would pick out the cutest clothes and maybe see if Grandma would store them at her house if I didn't have room.

Maybe the guys should give Ben a tool shower.

Maybe that would give him the motivation to get rid of some of the old ones he doesn't use. I'm sure he would love that.
