One Door Down

Step 1 of the kitchen remodel is almost finished! As I have earlier stated, there is very little cabinet or counter space in our kitchen, as you can see. So in order to fix that, we plan to close in the door that you see to the right of the cabinets. This will give us more wall space to add more cabinets.

In order to close that door in, we first had to install a new door here, in the dining room:

First, Ben took all the casing out around the window...
Then had to cut and remove all the drywall...
Here he is cutting the brick on the outside of the house. There was a lot of dust!!
Bricks partially removed.
All the bricks and the window are gone, now he's working on the framing:

Framing is gone now...BIG MESS!
New framing is up...
Door is in, new hardware is in, and drywall is up(sorry I missed a couple steps with the pictures.)
New casing is up around the door...
This is what it looks like from the outside: we still need to fix the brick, put in stairs, etc.
I will be sure to take more pictures when it is all finished!

On another note, Monday we took Isabelle outside and let her play in the grass. She loved it! Here are a few pictures...

Not much else new to share...Isabelle has a cold (or allergies or something) because her nose is running something fierce. She woke up this morning with it crusted all over her face. (sorry if that's TMI) Poor little thing...you can tell she is uncomfortable. Things are going pretty good at Ben's job, and I'm just doing my mommy thing. Nothing too exciting, other than some remodeling projects. Oh, I am thinking about doing a vegetable garden. Aren't you impressed? There is a garden space already in our yard, and one of the neighbors offered to come over and till it up for us, so I think I'm going to take him up on it and try out my green thumb. Feel free to share if you have any tips!

And here is a video of the window framing coming out...

Good job, Ben. The door looks great. I love that it has the blinds inside. You guys are so handy. I'm so jealous. I hope Isabelle is feeling better soon. Be careful starting a vegetable garden. The two times I decided to start one, I found out I was pregnant within a few weeks. Just warning you.

Wow, Bo would be so proud. :) Dan's handyman abilities are limited mostly to working with plywood. =P

Okay...I just have to say that I am super jealous that your husband can turn a window into an awesome door (make that two doors). Mine can barely put together "build-your-own" furniture! But he does have sniper skills and can tell if your drunk/high by looking at your eyes...I guess they can't be good at everything :-} Darn.
