Magic Capsules and Other Fun Adventures

Isabelle got a cute little Easter bucket from her teacher Sunday night at church. It was full of all the typical things like candy, but in two of the Easter eggs there were those nifty little capsules that you can put into warm water then the capsule part dissolves and the foam inside expands into the shape of some sort of animal(see picture above). Well I thought, "that's kind of cool. Isabelle would probably like that." So I think it was Monday or Tuesday that I put a little warm water in her Easter bucket and put in on the kitchen floor. Isabelle watched me take the capsules out of the eggs (which would normally, at least for the past few days, contain candy in them in her mind) and put them in the water. I told her not to touch them and naively thought that she would listen. I turned around for no more than 10 SECONDS, and heard her say "mmmm...." So I jolted my head around and she was in the process of putting one of the capsules in her mouth. I jerked it out of her hand before she swallowed it and looked around, but the second capsule was no where to be found. Guess it looked and tasted really yummy to her. So I immediately called her pediatrician. The nurse I talked to had no idea what to do, she had never heard of a child swallowing one of those! So she told me to call poison control and that she would ask the doctors what to do and call me back. Poison control told me not to worry, they were non-toxic and normally passed through without getting stuck anywhere...the nurse called me back and told me that the doctor said the same thing. Whew....no worries. Anyway, the point to that whole story is that those little capsules really work!! It was a blue capsule when it went in, and the next day when it came out, it was crab. Although it wasn't really blue anymore. Sorry, no pictures. :P

Isabelle came down with croup this week. I had heard of croup, but really didn't know the difference between croup and the regular cold/congestion stuff. She had not been sleeping good for a couple nights because of a cold and Tuesday night was particularly bad, so Wednesday Ben stayed home in the morning so that I could go back to bed for a little while, and then keep my plans to have breakfast with my friend Misti (who is also my Longaberger consultant). At breakfast I was describing to her what was going on with Isabelle, and she said it sounded exactly like her son Jonah when he had croup (he has had it twice this winter) and that I should take her to the doctor right away. So I called during breakfast to make the appointment and Ben met me in Salem with Isabelle so I could take her while he was in school. Turned out Misti was right, and she had croup. I'm so glad I did go to breakfast that morning, because if I had not talked to Misti, I may not have taken her to the doctor so quickly. They put her on a steroid that is supposed to help shrink her swollen airways. Tomorrow is the last day of those, so hopefully she will be all better by then! She immediately started sleeping better the night after starting the steriods, so they seem to be working. Altough I may need to go to the doctor next week, because I'm not feeling too great myself. Ben and I got out and did a little yard work today while Izzy was napping. (I couldn't help myself! It was so pretty out!) I'll take some pictures of what we did and post them when we're all done. Hope you have all had a good week that was not quite as "adventurous" as ours. ;)

first of all, what an adventure with the capsules! i used to love those things--i played with them in the tub. don't worry, that was awhile ago--at least 2 years. :):)
and no pictures?? perhaps that's best.
secondly, isn't misti fabulous? i'm glad she was there to offer you some suggestions, and i'm glad isabelle's feeling better. :)

Hope you and Ben are not getting sick. Croup is a nasty bug, glad you caught it early with Isabelle!

What a funny story to tell Isabelle when she's older! I'm glad it passed with no problems. I hope she gets over the croup just fine.
