NO FEAR

So I started reading the book of Joshua this week. No particular reason, I just wanted to study something in the Old Testament. In chapter one, I came across a really great verse. It is verse 9 that says "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." God was sending Joshua and the Isrealites to take the promised land. Can you imagine the fear that Joshua might have been feeling? He was taking over the Isrealite army and getting ready to go into battle. I get scared for much smaller reasons than that! But God COMMANDED him not to be afraid.

David said in Psalm 27:1-3 "The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident."

2 Timothy 1:7 says "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind."

I love the story of Jesus calming the sea in Matthew 8:23-27~ "Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then his disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, 'Lord, save us! We are perishing!' But He said to them, 'Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?' Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, 'Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?'"

It can be so difficult sometimes not to be fearful living in this world, with all its troubles. But itsn't it so comforting to know that we serve a Savior who can command even the seas and winds? I mean, who else can do that? No one! If He can do that, then He can take care of lil' ol' me! "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" (Matthew 6:26)

1 John 4:18~"...perfect love casts out fear..."

I really needed to hear that. I think about bad things happening ALL THE TIME. I shouldn't let those thoughts consume me.

Thanks! Love you, too!

Aric was missing Ben at the hospital. He told me to steal one of the gloves and mail it to Ben.

Ben would have been disappointed anyway, Aric had cool nurses, but no hot ones.
